Synopsis

This full Broadway version of Godspell is a lively rock musical by Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak that is based primarily on the Gospel of Matthew. Through a series of playful games, comedic storytelling, and vibrant songs, Jesus Christ leads a diverse group of followers as they learn and act out various biblical parables. The tone gradually shifts from joyful exuberance to somber reflection as the narrative approaches the Last Supper and Jesus's betrayal by Judas. Ultimately, the musical culminates in the crucifixion of Jesus, ending with his followers uniting to carry his teachings of love and community out into the world.
