CTC Capital Improvements
We are finishing our second season in our new facility and are happy to report Chapin
Theatre is thriving.
In 2024, we had 85 show nights with 8,000 guests attending. We perform 5 regular
season shows and 4 to 6 youth shows each year. In addition, we offer a dozen classes for
students of all ages.
We feel so fortunate to be able to pay our bills - including the $2300 it costs to service our $250,000 in loans -
and continue doing what we love -
entertaining and providing education for the community. We have received a few small
grants, but our revenues primarily come from memberships, ticketing, and your
generous donations.
Here are some of the capital projects we completed in 2024:
- We installed short throw projectors - If you saw The 39 Steps, you know what
they can do. We were able to project a moving train behind the scenes! In Willy
Wonka, we added all the colorful rooms of the factory. It has opened a lot of
possibilities for set designs and the types of shows we can perform on our stage.
- We now have an AED unit available thanks to a donation from our patrons Greg
and Kaye Gerrald. Most of the CTC Board of Directors have been through
CPR/Defibrillating training and are ready to aid in case of an emergency.
- We added an Assisted Hearing system to our sound equipment with loaner
headsets for those with hearing challenges. We have received great feedback on
the functionality of that system. The Chapin Women in Service and the SC Arts
Commission granted us the funds needed to add this benefit to those with
hearing loss.
- We added a mini split AC unit to our classroom to keep those dancers cool. We
also had to replace our AC unit at Julia’s House - our props, costume, and
rehearsal building.
- We added another 16x20 shed to hold our furniture and other large set items
thanks to a generous donation by patron Arla Marr (Tiffany Dinsmore’s mother).
- We have recently built a walkway structure along the side of the building for
safety. We received a generous donation from MonaLisa and Bill Botts, along with
a donation from the Chapin Women’s Club. We will be covering the walkway
soon with a metal roof. Our patrons will really enjoy that covered walkway when it
rains.
- We took down 5 tall trees around Julia’s house. We are lucky to have completed
that before the Hurricane event.
So, what is next on our list? We have several projects we would like to work on listed
below with a rough estimate of cost:
- $500 – Painting Covered walkway
- $30k – Improve the stage lighting options in the performance space. This would entail reworking the drop
ceiling and possibly spray foaming the insulation onto the roof. With those improvements, we would be
able to add to and rearrange our set lighting needs.x`
- $20k - Improve the traffic for drop-off and pickup for the Julia’s house education
center, by adding a driveway from the theatre parking up to the house.
- $5k – Replace carpet in Lobby with flooring
- $21k – Add permanent seating for the top 2 or 3 rows of the theatre.
- $150k - Pave the existing parking lot.
- $200k - Add two multipurpose rooms for classes, rehearsals, small showcases.
- $20k – Provide added parking for those classrooms.
Please consider donating to our building fund.
