Synopsis: A hilarious and touching comedy about friendships that last forever.
Five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other's lives. THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of thirty-three years. Sheree, the spunky team captain, desperately tries to maintain her organized and "perfect" life, and continues to be the group's leader. Dinah, the wisecracking overachiever, is a career dynamo. But her victories in the courtroom are in stark contrast to the frustrations of her personal life. Lexie, pampered and outspoken, is determined to hold on to her looks and youth as long as possible. She enjoys being married—over and over and over again. The self-deprecating and acerbic Vernadette, acutely aware of the dark cloud that hovers over her life, has decided to just give in and embrace the chaos. And sweet, eager-to-please Jeri Neal experiences a late entry into motherhood that takes them all by surprise. As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the challenges (men, sex, marriage, parenting, divorce, aging) that life flings at them. And when fate throws a wrench into one of their lives in the second act, these friends, proving the enduring power of "teamwork," rally 'round their own with the strength and love that takes this comedy in a poignant and surprising direction. THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB is the story of these five unforgettable women—a hilarious and touching comedy about friendships that last forever...
Tiffany Dinsmore — Lexie Richards / Producer
Tiffany is excited to be back on stage especially with this great group of women. She is not sure how long it will take Ripley to recover from trying to keep us reined in, but is sure he learned a lot about women. It has been two years since she was last seen onstage in Chapin's hilarious "Sealed For Freshness." She serves as Chapin Theatre's Artistic Director and heads up the CTC Youth Performing Troupe, The Headliners. Some of her favorite roles have been Honey Rae Futrell in Dearly Beloved, Christmas Belles, and Southern Hospitality, Tessie Tura in Gypsy, and The Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz. She hopes you enjoy this play about what is truly important in life: friendships. |
Meesh Hays — Jeri Neal McFeely
Meesh grew up in coastal North Carolina, so she's feeling right at home on these imaginary Outer Banks. She is starting to suspect that Chapin Theatre directors are typecasting her, adding another double-named character to her resume alongside Sugar Lee (The Hallelujah Girls), Honey Raye (Christmas Belles), and Tracy Ann (Sealed for Freshness). Other favorite Chapin roles include Veronica (The Sensuous Senator), Mom/Drunk Lady (Leaving Iowa), Mrs. Darling/Pirate Wench (Peter Pan) and Mrs. Gloop (Willy Wonka). Her directing credits include A Charlie Brown Christmas, Madagascar, and The Little Mermaid, and she can't wait to work with her partner in crime (Tiffany) to direct Shrek this summer. Meesh loves her workbabies at Irmo Middle, her theatre babies, and her own two Clemson Tigers, Austin and Kori. These five years of acting are courtesy of her truelove, Jimmy, who used to be a genuine TV Cameraman. |
Zsuzsa Manna — Vernadette Simms
Zsuzsa is thrilled to be back on the boards, it's always a pleasure and a challenge. The last time she had the honor of playing for a Chapin audience was as Dotty in Noises Off. Since moving here from NY in 2013, she has appeared in Arsenic and Old Lace with the Newberry Community Players, in The Game’s Afoot and You Can't Take It With You at Town, with Workshop in Don't Dress For Dinner, Barefoot in the Park, Steel Magnolias and The Odd Couple (Female Version), at VST in The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, and on the Trustus stage in Standing on Ceremony. During the day, she and her husband Mark are the proprietors of Lake Murray Liquors in Ballentine. "Without the support from the ones I love, I couldn’t do what I love. XOXOXO... Thank you!" |
Cathy Carter Scott — Sheree Hollinger
Cathy has been having a ball, working through the process with old friends and new. Her most recent performance was in String of Pearls (Workshop Theatre) brilliantly directed by her castmate, Zsussa Manna. Over the past 35 years, Cathy has performed in most of the areas theatres, including Town Theatre, Village Square, Workshop and Chapin Theatre. Some of her favorite portrayals have been Adelaide (Guys and Dolls), Georganne (Five Women Wearing the Same Dress), Ouiser (Steel Magnolias), Belinda (Noises Off), Abby (Last Stop Chapin) and Doris McAfee (Bye Bye Birdie). Cathy enjoys "playing the part" of Sales and Events Coordinator at The River Center, Business Owner (Cake Pop Creations) and Mother in the real world. Thank you to Ripley, the cast and crew for being so much fun and to James for his love and support. |
Debra Haines Kiser — Dinah Grayson
Debra recently returned to the Columbia stage as Polly in Workshop Theatre's production of "Other Desert Cities", after a thirty-eight year absence. She was in many Columbia productions from 1978-1981, appearing as Nancy ("Oliver!"), Sandy ("Grease"), Nancy Twinkle ("Little Mary Sunshine") and Lois/Bianca("Kiss Me Kate"). Debra was a professional actress in NYC for ten years appearing in commercials and training films. She is currently enjoying retirement and returning to the stage. |
